Jonathan Anuik is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Educational Policy Studies at the University of Alberta. His research focuses on the history of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit education in Canada. His research interests cross the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary fields of childhood and youth, teaching, education, and learning, spirituality, and Indigenous studies. His PhD dissertation _Métis Families and Schools: The Decline and Reclamation of Métis Identities in Saskatchewan, 1885-1980_ won the the Canadian History of Education Association’s Founders’ Prize: The Cathy James Memorial Dissertation Prize for a thesis on the history of education in Canada, written in either French or English in 2010. His recent book _First in Canada: An Aboriginal Book of Days_ (Canadian Plains Research Center Press, 2011) won the First Peoples’ Publishing Award and was a shortlisted title for the Award for Publishing at the 2011 Saskatchewan Book Awards. He currently serves as an editorial board member for the interdisciplinary scholarly journal _Prairie Forum_.
