The community has long faced issues of marginalization and disorientation, presenting obstacles to sustainable development. The study investigates the impact of women's empowerment initiatives on sustainable development outcomes within the community. A sample of 116 respondents was randomly selected, and data was collected through a structured questionnaire and interviews. The study analyzes key sustainable development indicators, including economic growth, social equity, and environmental sustainability. Furthermore, it explores the factors influencing women's empowerment and their active participation in sustainable development initiatives. The findings underscore the presence of gender disparities that hinder women's economic productivity and impede sustainable development progress. The study highlights the potential of leveraging traditional women's networks as effective mobilization mechanisms toward desired goals. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the gender dynamics in sustainable development efforts. It gives valuable insights for policymakers and stakeholders seeking to foster inclusive and sustainable development in marginalized communities. Based on the research findings, recommendations include empowering women through educational training, financial support, and community-based interventions to enhance their socioeconomic status.
2023-08-10T23:35:22-07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Innocent Okon Jimmy, Imaobong Olssonhttps://www.macrothink.org/journal/index.php/jsss/article/view/21127An Exploration of Ha Jin’s Cultural and Literal Capital Reflected in Waiting2024-01-23T02:03:41-08:00Tan Jing464333886@qq.com
Ha Jin is one of the most important contemporary Chinese-American writers in American literary circles. His diaporic identity, on one hand, offers him the priority to observe and retrospect the two cultures. On the other hand, it makes his composition imprinted with strong features: unique narrative mode and skillful design, through which he exposes thoroughly human nature and probes into the intricacies of the heart. This essay intends to analyze how Ha Jin’s cultural and literary capital has enhanced the theme of the novel Waiting. He is especially good at depicting everyday details in simple English with a Chinese flavor. By these detailed descriptions, he gives us insight into the lives of Kong Lin and Manna Wu which are mechanistic and dehumanizing. We can also see how an individual’s fate is determined by everyday life from everyday details of the characters in the novel.
2023-08-11T00:00:00-07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Tan Jinghttps://www.macrothink.org/journal/index.php/jsss/article/view/21196Rule of Law History and Development in China: in Comparison of Australia2024-01-23T02:03:41-08:00Mi WANG476581369@qq.comZhenhuan ZHANG1429249612@qq.com
The article discusses the rule of law development and application in China compared with Australia. In August 2021, the Chinese Central Government issued the Implementation Outline for the Construction of a Government Under the Rule of Law (2021-2025), which indicated the general plan to improve rule of law for the next five years. In the past few years, the Chinese government has made great efforts to promote the rule of law theory. China enforced judicial reform, which improves the judicial independence and professional ability of legal practitioners. Chinese rule of law formation has been influenced by western countries due to previous foreign legal aid and Australian judicial practice has also been influenced by Chinese theory. In Australia, people are encouraged to solve civil disputes via mediation and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods, which may be influenced by Chinese theory of “Fengqiao Experience”. It is important to continue increasing rule of law in China, but it is improper to transplant the Australian theory to China directly due to the different legal culture and history between two countries. Generally, more efforts need to be made for strengthening rule of law in China.
2023-09-11T03:58:00-07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Mi WANG, Zhenhuan ZHANG, Zhenhuan ZHANGhttps://www.macrothink.org/journal/index.php/jsss/article/view/21302Research Overview on Knowledge Sharing: A Case Study of Vietnam2024-01-23T02:03:41-08:00Tran Van Dungtvdung@hcmunre.edu.vn
This research aims to provide an overview of studies on knowledge sharing in Vietnam. This study delves into the intricate interplay of cultural, socio-economic, and institutional factors contributing to child maltreatment in Uganda's Busoga and Acholi regions. Guided by the case study methodology, the research examines the prevalence of child maltreatment, the influence of cultural norms and practices, the roles of cultural and religious leaders, and the challenges within the child protection system.

The findings reveal alarming statistics, highlighting the pervasiveness of child maltreatment, including corporal punishment in schools, child defilement, sexual violence, and child labor. The socio-economic context, particularly in northern Uganda, amplifies children's vulnerabilities due to poverty, disease, conflict, and the prevalence of orphans. Cultural norms and traditions significantly shape disciplinary practices, emphasizing community involvement in child upbringing. Local cultural and religious leaders influence child discipline structures and advocate for children's rights. However, despite theoretical approaches to child protection, practical implementation lags, and identifying perpetrators remains challenging. Poor documentation and resource constraints hinder effective responses to child maltreatment, leading to a resource allocation disparity between urban and rural areas.

The implications of child maltreatment are profound, affecting children's physical, psychological, and emotional well-being, potentially leading to long-term consequences. The study recommends collaborative efforts involving government bodies, NGOs, cultural and religious leaders, and communities. Culturally sensitive interventions, practical implementation of child protection measures, and equitable resource allocation are vital components of a holistic approach.
2023-10-26T00:00:00-07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Timonthy Kigonya, Imaobong Olssonhttps://www.macrothink.org/journal/index.php/jsss/article/view/21414Dance and Psychological Health: Effect of Dance Participation on Social Development2024-01-23T02:03:41-08:00Aglaia Zafeiroudiaglaiazaf@hotmail.com
Dance is listed among the most common physical activities that have been integrated into almost all cultures and societies worldwide. The art of dancing engages an individual’s cognitive, social, and physical facets, all of which are integral components of psychological health and wellbeing. The social element of dance has been integrated into the modern health sector and other social settings to influence the relationship between psychological health and wellbeing and social support-related challenges. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate whether engaging in dance has an impact on the social dimension of psychological health and well-being. The initial hypothesis of the study, which was based on a literature review, was that participating in dance positively influences the social dimension of psychological well-being. An online literature review search that was conducted on the Google Scholar database for research published between 2013 and 2023 yielded 169 results from which 20 most recent studies between 2019-2023 were selected for inclusion in the final analysis. Dance promotes social wellness regardless of the settings in which it is performed by influencing the cognitive and behavioral processes regulating social relations among humans. Thus, dance is an effective vehicle for social support and a vital network for healthy social connections. Recent dance-based trends and dance practice characteristics could potentially serve as the new modes of social connections to promote social welfare.
2023-10-26T00:00:00-07:00Copyright (c) 2023 Aglaia Zafeiroudihttps://www.macrothink.org/journal/index.php/jsss/article/view/21349Media Framing of Internal Immigrants: Exclusion and Sympathy towards Migrant Workers in China2024-01-23T02:03:41-08:00Mengyu Luom.luo@usst.edu.cnKe Tangtking1999@163.com
This study examines the representation of China’s internal immigrants, commonly referred to as migrant workers, in four prominent Chinese newspapers that cater to various societal groups. We conduct a comprehensive examination of 48 news articles featuring the keyword “农民工” (migrant workers) using a combination of quantitative and qualitative content analysis methods. The findings highlight a prevailing pattern where newspapers, particularly those oriented toward intellectual audiences, contribute to the marginalization of migrant workers. Unfortunately, this prevailing trend perpetuates the exclusion of migrant workers, thereby perpetuating institutional discrimination. In light of China’s multicultural society, it is imperative to promote greater tolerance for migrant workers. However, it is crucial to recognize that genuine progress necessitates government intervention. It is incumbent upon both central and local authorities to actively advocate for equal treatment and integration opportunities for China’s migrant worker population, as minority survival cannot rely solely on media representation.
2023-12-22T00:00:00-08:00Copyright (c) 2023 Mengyu Luo, Ke Tanghttps://www.macrothink.org/journal/index.php/jsss/article/view/21548The Impact of Process-oriented Guided Inquiry Learning on Students’ Academic Achievement and Capacities for Collaboration and Problem-solving2024-01-23T02:03:41-08:00Su-Ching Linsclin@cc.ncue.edu.twHsiao-ping Leesclin@cc.ncue.edu.tw
This study investigates the impact of Process-oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) on students' academic performance, collaboration, and problem-solving capacities. This study adopted a two-group experimental design comprising an experimental group that received POGIL pedagogy and a control group that received traditional pedagogy. The 98 seventh-graders from a junior high school in central Taiwan comprised 51 experimental and 47 control group students. The data were collected over one semester using tests to assess academic achievement and scales to measure collaboration and problem-solving. This study used descriptive statistics: distribution frequencies, percentages, mean values, standard deviations, and inferential statistics: ANCOVA to analyze data. The results revealed that the experimental group acquired significantly higher scores on the collaboration and problem-solving scales and academic tests than the control group, indicating that POGIL pedagogy is more effective than traditional pedagogy at improving students' academic achievement and capacities for collaboration and problem-solving. The study confirmed that POGIL pedagogy positively affected student academic achievement, collaboration, and problem-solving capacities.
2023-12-22T00:00:00-08:00Copyright (c) 2023 Su-Ching Lin, Hsiao-ping Leehttps://www.macrothink.org/journal/index.php/jsss/article/view/21568Examining the Influence of International Migration and Migrant Remittances in Nigeria2024-01-23T02:03:41-08:00Imaobong Olssonstanslot2@yahoo.com
Migration is a common phenomenon, often driven by solid motivations, mainly involving long-term relocation. Residents of less affluent countries frequently migrate to more prosperous nations for improved livelihoods. Remittances, the transfer of monetary and societal supplies from the nations that host immigrants to their nations, are recognized as a significant outcome of international migration. Nigeria, a prominent recipient of remittances, serves as the focus of this study. The findings unveil that lack of food, security, safety, joblessness, and no income force global immigration to be the only alternative for most people in Nigeria who are not from well-to-do families. The methodology employed in this study is triangulation, which involves comprehensively examining various data sources to reinforce the validity and reliability of the research findings. The research is rooted in the neo-classical theory, delving into global immigration with a specific impact on remittances from their home country.
2023-12-29T00:00:00-08:00Copyright (c) 2023 Imaobong Olssonhttps://www.macrothink.org/journal/index.php/jsss/article/view/21475The Research on the Impact of Customers on the Firms’ Green Behaviors2024-01-23T02:03:41-08:00Guangtao Zengbellona_green@hotmail.com
With the deterioration of the natural environment, how to promote the firms’ green behaviors has become an important topic. The study examined the impact of customers on the firms’ green behaviors. Then, we conducted empirical tests on the Chinese-listed companies. It has been found that green customers positively promote the firms’ green behaviors. Meanwhile, the assets liability ratio and the polluted industry strengthen the impact of customers on the firms’ green behaviors. This study makes suggestions that the government can drive the green development of the overall supply chain by providing support to customer-side firms.
2024-01-23T02:03:14-08:00Copyright (c) 2023 guangtao zenghttps://www.macrothink.org/journal/index.php/jsss/article/view/21657The Psychological Realism in Antony Tudor's Jardin Aux Lilas (The Lilac Garden)2024-01-23T02:06:50-08:00Dahlia Kashmirydkashmiry@outlook.com
Psychological realism is a narrative genre that emphasizes interior characterization and motivation to explore and probe the characters' spiritual, emotional, and mental lives. Antony Tudor, ballet dancer and choreographer, established and developed the psychological ballet. His masterpiece, Jardin aux Lilas, demonstrates his mastery of conveying profound, psychologically delicate emotions through ballet vocabulary and movements. Jardin aux Lilas is a romantic story that explores the conventions of marriage during the Victorian era through the story of Caroline, who is drawn to marry a man of fortune whom she does not love. Among the wedding ceremony guests are her lover and her fiancé's former mistress. Tudor's choreography is lyrical and dramatic and brilliantly captures the characters' moods and emotions. The ballet reflects the development of the psychological complex of the principal character, Caroline. As she steals moments of encounters with her lover, her movements are light and agile, portraying her joy and carefree mood. Her movements become more introspective, heavy, and somber as she realizes the inevitable separation from her lover and leaves in the arms of her betrothed. In conclusion, Jardin Aux Lilas is a complex and multifaceted ballet that offers a glimpse into the human psyche. It is a testament to the power of art to communicate complex ideas and emotions.
2024-01-23T00:00:00-08:00Copyright (c) 2024 Dahlia Kashmiry
